Hoping someone out there can help me...
I ordered BT broadband over2months ago, and am still yet to be connected. I have spent over 12 hours on the phone to them, a lot of it billed to my mobile as BT never sent me the handset which was "guaranteed" delivery the following day (still not turned up). Each time I call I get excuse after excuse as to why my account hasn't been activated and each time, it'll be "active in 48hours".
Has anyone else had this problem, and is this a reasonable time to have to wait to get a broadband connection? I'm tempted to go elsewhere for the service, but worried i'll have exactly the same problems.....any ideas?

Being a contractor to BT (working on thier network) and dealing with irate customers every day with similar problems to you my advice to you is.
Goto to NTL/Telewest and use thier broadband service as it is by far the best available.
Or cancel you BT subscription and try another ISP such as Pipex,Tiscali,Bulldog etc etc.....all offer far better packages/prices than BT ever will.
Good Luck

I am using BT and luckily I didn't have any problems. However, I would suggest that if you've been waiting that long then just call them and say you want to cancel your contract and leave BT. Then watch them spring into action and beg for your business. If that's still not good enough then find something elsewhere, there are more than enough choices out there these says, just ask around to find out what options there are. Word of mouth is usually the best way, adverts are made to sell regardless of quality.

Am about to come to end of year's contract with BT and don't intend renewing. Set up was fine, but found Helpline in Indian sub continent a nightmare as they talk very fast and don't listen to what you're telling them. On one occasion all that needed to be done was to press the reset button on the router (this I eventually discovered myself) but the help desk were telling me to disconnect wires and all sorts of weird stuff. Luckily I've managed to resolve any minor glitches during the contract. It may be cheaper to send call centres abroad but if the service is no service at all, what's the point?
There is supposed to be a new e-mail format and although it has come on screen, the old one still comes up too. Requests to sign in keep coming up when you're already working on line and I'm so fed up with Norton Virus trying to sell me more expensive protection under the guise of normal product updates. I've a friend with Tiscali and he says they are very good, no probs, so that's where I plan to go next.

BT is the terrific in each and every component, different than for fee,I had talktalk, what a nightmare.BT technical help is quite sturdy, additionally BT run each and all of the exchanges meaning you save related each and all of the time.various broadband vendors can no longer get their kit to artwork good in BTs exchanges, thats why people have problems.

This is exactly the same thing that happened to my dad, it nearly drove him up the wall in the end.
Eventually they sent him his phone, however to shut him up in the meantime they sent him a trio pack of a digital colour phone - so really kick up a stink.
Having said that, BT also managed a right blinder: they disconnected his phone lines too so it was a bit worse.
Basically I would kick @rse if I were you, I don't know of one person that has had good service from them.
You are the consumer, they should treat you with respect and value you

I've had no end of set up problems with bt but have no alternative at the mo. The wife kicked off at them (she's good at that) and got a good refund for lack of service once they had sorted all the problems out. If I had the option I'd consider cable. It'd probably be at a faster speed too.
