The connection with nature, the sight and the smells. The pungent wetness...the seeds! Which you can toast. The great abundance of it...
With other people, and definitely little kids, it can be a bonding, and growing experience. They are so awed by everything, they really get into the spirit of it.
And it's crafty! For an adult or could be an advanced craft experiment, for a child it is an introduction to crafting that they will never forget, or the person who showed them.

I absolutely love carving pumpkins - my favorite moment is when we get the candles in & the lights out so we can see the faces glowing in the dark!! The look on my childrens' faces is the very best thing!

Enjoying the moment with your children. Mine had a blast scooping out the gooey seeds and then drawing on the faces for us to help them carve.

My bf and I made our first one this year and it was so much fun. I did most of the fine carving and he took a lot of photos of this 'piece of art' as it turned out to be :)
