All depends. In my personal case - two works better. I am fairly self dependent & I couldn't handle the thought of being supported by another person - even if that person is my husband. I want to contribute equally both towards the material things that we have & to our future retirements.

This question is not specific enough. The factors will answer the question. If one spouse makes enough money to support the family, prepare for the kid's education, etc, then one income is fine. If you cannot afford to live the life you want, then two incomes are needed. Most families need two incomes in order to live their life in a manner that makes them happy.

I believe when possible one parent should stay at home with the children kids are always better off with a parent then in a daycare. But of course that isn't always possible sometimes you need two sources of income.

now these days both members of the family need to work unless one of the members bring in 2 time the amount of the other. with housing and food going up every year it get hard to be normal.
