If anyone cares to know, NOVEMBER is national 'write a novel' month... or something like that. I learned that from Yahoo! ;)
I've been planning to write a novel for years now, and I never sit down and do it. Maybe having a special month dedicated for that fact will help. My question - Does anyone have any story ideas they'd like to share? I have plenty, but sometimes hearing someone elses ideas can add to mine... only tell me if you never plan on writing it yourself, and if you don't mind if I DO use your idea, or some semblence of it. Or maybe, a character that you'd love to see written? I need motivation, what's my motivation?!

Try to come up with a main character for your story. Write down a description - male, female, eye color, etc. etc.

Then take this character and imagine then in some odd place or scenario – anything goes! Write down ideas on what would have to happen to your character or how they would react to the scenario you placed them in.

You can do this for multiple characters if you like.

This may seem futile, but it will help you flesh out some characters and give you insight into what you may want to happen to this type of character in a potential story. You may even come up with multiple story lines!

Strong well crafted main characters can inspire readers to love your story as well as motivate you to write a great story for these imagined beings so be in! :-)

I can't really help you with plot ideas but there are lots of books on just that. What I am writing you for it to tell you the website for National Novel Writing Month. I'm sure you probably have it, but here it is anyway.
I have heard a lot of good things about the book Writing The Breakout Novel Workbook by Maass

There is a software program called New Novelist that is very helpful to new writers. It helps you develope an outline for a novel in such a way that you have a very good chance of getting published if you are willing to do the work.

All it takes to become a writer is to write about 1,000,000 words. That may sound silly, but until you practise your craft, you won't improve your dialogue, plotting, pace, sentence length all the things that makes good writing work.

As for ideas, write what you know about. Use yourself and your friends and family as characters. Talk about things that matter to you. Good luck!
