Is there a particular song that brings you to tears even though its not sad? Is there an artist with the power to make you scream, dance, jump, cry, ***, laugh? Lyrics that make you remember how good it is be to be alive, or remind you to call your loved ones and tell them how you feel? Make you so angry you shout the refrain in the car as you drive or in the shower like a madperson until you're hoarse?

ON A PERSONAL NOTE:

Rufus Wainright's version of Cohen's 'Hallelujah', Flaming Lips' 'Do You Realize?' and Iron and Wine's 'Upwards Over the Mountain' seem to have a power over me that I can't reign in.... Tears regardless of whose presence I'm in or what mood I'm in.

Modest Mouse's 'Float On', Beck's 'Girl', and Hot Chip's entire album 'The Warning' all make me implicitly happy regardless of my state at the time.

Lastly, for raw power and intelligence unsurpassed, Iron and Wine, The Shins, and Jose Gonzales all deserve a Nobel....

Good thoughts so far, folks. I am adding details, because it'd be a complete shame and a disgrace if I didn't mention Jack Johnson.... His song Do You Remember is my wife and I's 'our song' .... I suspect it may be a lot of couples' .....

*Buckley's version of Hallelujah *is* great, as well. Wainwright's voice alone almost drives me nuts its so good..... In the case you're unfamiliar with it, check it. Also, not mentioning Cohen himself would be mean-spirited as well....

I really like Jeff Buckley's version of Cohen's Hallelujah. However I believe the song that hits me the most powerfully has to be Green Day '(Good Riddance) Time of Your Life' This song reminds me of somebody so special who sort of filtered away from me, but who I think about everyday. The lyrics are so haunting, but so true and completely not clichéd like so many ballads are these days. A good raw, accoustic song by a normal bloke who feels some pain after the breakdown of a relationship. A song for all to relate too.

Yes so many!! I don't have the time or the finger power to list them all. Just a few:

Candlebox - Far Behind remindes me of my brother when he died and left me far behind. I always cry when I hear this one.

Collective Soul - The World I know - Same reason

Linkin Park - Crawling - Just what I feel alot of the time

Cory Hart - Never Surrender - I need to remember this when I get frustrated and on the brink of giving up.

Linkin Park - A Place for my Head - this is for my greedy mother- I'm sick of her acting like this.

Good Charlotte - Perfect - This is for my Dad. No matter what, I can NEVER be this for him.

This is a start. I liked this question! Good One!!

Lyfe Jennings' songs Goodbye and S.E.X get to me the most. I think a LOT of girls can relate to these songs, because I know I can. They make me emotional everytime, and the lyrics are all things that I've wanted to say, but never found the words for.

Gotta agree with you...Hallelujah is POWERFUL! It's an amazing song that everyone should listen to. Rufus Wainwright is GORGOUS. Beck is always good too.

Vienna by Billy Joel is a song that reminds me that I'm young, slow down, and just realize that I don't have to do it all, right now. He is my favorite artist of all time, and his music really speaks to me! But that song in particular stands out.
