I think they grow better in dirt, but it would be an easy experiment to sprout some seeds on a paper towel, toilet tissue and a towel and figure it out. Let us know.

Cotton Towel for specific because of the fact its extra softer. additionally in the journey that your wipe your face with paper towel it could reason redness and irration on your face so follow the softer stuff like a cotton towel.:)

Being a Horticulturalist, I am certain any plant is going to grow better in soil or potting medium.
