Virtually any response can be reconditioned. However, it is important to note that it is much harder to change a behavior or response than it is to create one brand new. There are many behavior modification techniques for this sort of thing, from things as simple as aversion therapy, to out and out reconditioning, and even on to hypnotherapy (I have no opinions on the latter nor any information on how effective it is, I suspect if it were all that effective everyone would be doing it and there would be no smokers left in the world).

yes, once you have an experience that defies a conditioned response then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.
eg. You battle with rejection all your life and cannot cope when someone rejects you ... once the core of the rejection is dealt with, the reaction will be different. A person would then question and quite possibly change their reaction in the future.
Isnt the human mind a magnificent thing!!

You have to be very aware of what is happening, want to change and try very hard. If someone tells you about a conditioned response that is bothersome to them, but you don't notice it, it would be harder to change than a conditioned response that you were already aware of and didn't like.

of course, through training.....
like how most people would run from a fire, but firemen go in the house to rescue people.
or, in fighting, the conditioned response is to dodge or draw back from a punch, but a skilled fighter can step inside and counter

Yes, but it is very hard and you have to want to change. You have to become really aware of what you are doing in order to correct them. I would only do this if it was something that really bothered me and my family alot.
