Pressing olives to make oil produces waste pulp and shredded stones. can they be used for garden compost or mulch? Are there any other uses not needing clever technology?

Any plant waste/ tree waste can be used in compost. Make sure you mix it well with other garden waste and compost it properly though.

definately compost it. I dont know how much you will be composting, but there is a great composting bucket that uses bokashi to ferment the organic matter and make a fertilizing "tea" as microbes convert the matter to nutrients. You keep it under your sink or somewhere in your kitchen so you dont have to make trips to a compost pile. If you use your press a lot, or if you have scraps after preparing meals or eating them. Compost is fantastic for the planet and your own garden. I use it. i love it.

A natural substance returned to a natural state, seems like compost is viable.

That said however you reminded me of something,,,not that it will work in your case, but here goes.

While in Scotland a few years ago, I visited a small distillery, that created single and blend malt Scotch. The residue(grains) after processing were collected and recycled to local livestock as food,,,eventually being recycled as animal waste, to become a compost of sorts.

This site has a wealth of information.

Olive pits are infamously difficult to dispose of. They do not quickly biodegrade. Lindsey, the California olive canner has tried just about everything there is. Burning them as biomass to make electricity seems the best when you have industrial-scale numbers of them.
