It literally means "hunter". What screwed it up for the poor word was Bugs Bunny when he would refer to the bumbling hunter, Elmer Fudd. Bugs always called him "nimrod", so everyone took it as a word to make fun of somebody.
I actually saw, at an old job of mine, a client with the name Nimrod, and felt sorry for the elderly guy, but he was basically named "hunter" before the word "nimrod" got such a bad rep.
So, we all have Warner Brothers & Bugs Bunny to thank for the word contotation.

First, what does the name "Nimrod" mean? It comes from the Hebrew verb marad, meaning "rebel." Adding an "n" before the "m" it becomes an infinitive construct, "Nimrod." (see Kautzsch 1910: 137 2b, also BDB 1962: 597). The meaning then is "The Rebel".
In Genesis 10:8-11, we learn that "Nimrod" established a kingdom. Nimrod was a very significant man in ancient times, the grandson of Ham and great-grandson of Noah. Nimrod started his kingdom at Babylon (Gen. 10:10). It is also widely accepted that "Nimrod" is more well known as "Gilgamesh".

There is a fort in Israel called Nimrod on the spice road, and a British fighter plan by the same name, guessing biblical origins

Nimrod is a character in the Bible related to Noah. It's just that the name sounds so hokey that someone can get called that if they do something dumb. I mean, would you name your kid Nimrod?

It means the hunter in the bible and in Greek Mythology. The Greek part is why many consider it to be derogatory. The bibical part is why others consider it to be a title.

LOL, I am not sure! But I think it refers to someone who does not think before taking action. 'cause this usually causes mishaps.
