You're acting like a baby bat, and that is why people won't take you seriously. Do you think you can just waltz into Hot Topic, pick up something 'gothic' looking with the allowance your parents gave you, and really be a goth? Not possible. Ever listen to a song called: Hot Topic Is Not Punk Rock, by MC Lars? Most real goths, punks and emo kids go to Salvation Army , Goodwill, and the like so they can pick out reasonably priced clothes, take them home, and personalize them by altering them. Don't let huge corporations cashing in on subcultures convince you otherwise. Emo/ Screamo music: the only people I know of who listen to it are melodramatic 13-year-olds. MCR, Fall Out Boy, Dashboard Confessional, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Disturbed, Slipknot, Mudvayne: this is music made for teenagers with money to burn. It would behoove you to go listen to some New Wave or postpunk. It's the real deal. Goth is a lifestyle that came from postpunk, and no matter how much of Mummy and Daddy's money kids spend, real goths will not take them seriously. Emo comes from a late eighties/early nineties kind of music called Emotional Hardcore, which came, indirectly, from punk. Dressing up on the outside does not change who people are on the inside, no matter how hard they try. Trying to impress people with their new music and clothes and expensive accessories and bad attitude is juvenile, rich-kid, and very embarrasing. I've seen it before and I will likely see it again. Just be yourself. It will be cheaper, more fulfilling and all-around less ridiculous in the long run. As for mental problems: Be good to yourself and see a psychiatrist.
And seeing as you asked for music:
Ecce Gratum (Club Mix) - Qntal
O Quanta Qualia - Azam Ali
5 Years - Bjork
Tears - Cruxshadows
The Mummer's Dance - Loreena McKennitt
A Feeling - Throwing Muses
Sweet Misery - Janis Ian
Nico - I'm Not Saying
Cosmic Dancer - T-Rex
Celtic New Year - Jim Morrison
We Interrupt This Program - Coburn
Dancing In The Moonlight - King Harvest
Otherwise - Morcheeba
Innocente - Delirium
Indigo Eyes - Peter Murphy
Looking For The Next Best Thing - Warren Zevon
Cherry Coloured Funk - The Cocteau Twins
The Lovecats - The Cure
Subterranean Homesick Blues - Bob Dylan
Quigauiit - Tudjaat
All I Need - Air
Hairy Trees - Goldfrapp
The Shins - New Slang
Azwaw 2 - Cheb Mami
I could Be Happy - Altered Images
No Action - Elvis Costello
Ring of Fire - Wall of Voodoo
Clocks - Twelve Girls Band
Where Your Eyes Don't Go - They Might Be Giants
You're Lost, Little Girl - Siouxsie And The Banshees
The The - Love Is Stronger Than Death
Poor Leno - Royksopp
Voices - Macross Plus (anime soundtrack)
Happy listening.

Well, one thing is, Hurley and Element aren't goth. They're supposed to be surf/skate, which are sports and lifestyles. Goth and indie kids can get clothes at thrift stores because they're less likely to be big-brand stuff and be really cheap, so you can always be tweaking your wardrobe for less money.

As for cutting; cutting gets a lot of negative attention, but I always thought it was cool. I did it a lot in high school, but I think it was always a little bit for attention. There's nothing wrong with that; if people say it seems suicidal, just tell them it's not and you feel like scars are cool and you have no desire to DIE. Actually you might try burning, like heat a knife or something small and thin (at first because the pain is different) and then just press it to your skin in a non-conspicuous area like the bicep or between the knuckles. At first it will hurt, but it's a different pain and sort of seeps into you and dissipates.

It'll result in a depression almost like a cauterized cut that didn't draw blood; after a day or so it'll blister, but not painfully, and after a couple more days it'll be a cool scar.

But honestly it's probably better just not to do it and find other more productive ways of getting your feelings out.

Honestly if you were a prep your whole life and a happy little rich kid,i can understand why your parents are acting the way they're acting.Just because you paint your nails black doesn't mean anything..in fact alot of stars are painting their nails black,i read it in teen people. Its stylish. You don't want to be goth,if you want to i know i girl who dressed in goth, and went to the thrift store.I think that you should talk to your parents and get some help.Your saying that your depressed, goth people aren't depressed, they have views and opinions, and they have understandings of the goth world.Just because your depressed doesn't make you goth.Get some help, you'll figure out your problems....if you need somebody to talk to you can talk to me.You can talk to me,and I'll answer some of your questions about life......

Weren't you on here earlier with the exact same thing? What's taking you so long? Are you still looking for pity from everyone? Get some freakin' PROFESSIONAL HELP already.

Waaaaa, you've had a silver spoon shoved in your mouth & now you're trying to rebel. If you're going to act that way, don't expect your family to understand without you explaining it to them. They can't read your mind you know and when they DO bring something up about your behaviour or looks, don't act like there isn't something wrong, when there is. Just sit down and talk to them. You don't have to be so dramatic. I'm sure they will understand if you give them some patience.

sorry , but what you're doing is absolutely idiotic. you said you dont want your family to think of you as a little child - that doesnt mean you have to "go" goth, emo and start cutting yourself or change the way you dress. there are millions of other ways doing that. Honestly, to me you seem like those girls in my class that think Emo/Goth is "cool", have "emo " guys kissing pics all over and cut their wrists because obviously thats the way to deal with pain.

" why do people think im suicidal"
cutting wrist IS that
so if you just do it because of likin the pain, my dear something is wrong with you.

neither can you just "go" goth
goth and emo are both music genres, and over the years its become a fashion and its idiotic, and youre following that trend..

go do whatever you want, but people Wont respect you more out of this, trust me.

think of me as rude, but this is an honest answer.

i agree with the person above me, you ARE a little girl,
a wanna be.
and stop here and go back to being yourself before its too late.

this wont make you seem older, it does the COMPLETE Opposite. its retarded.

If u want 2, u can start listening 2 punk rock, like:
Maroon 5, Linkin Park, Evanescence, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte.....& u could dress black. It's more of a state of mind than what u wear & most people don't understand that.
