The point is to chlorine titrate the organic gums built up in the disposer.

bleach will kill some and shock other organic processes that are causing the odors - but it'll just come back. especially if you keep dumping things that will rot down there. You need to stop those processes instead of repeatedly use bleach (which will eventually corrode your piping, etc and poison wherever that water comes out) you need to create a balance or organisms instead of killing all of them. killing them will do nothing good in the long-run.
Pour SCD Bio Klean down your drains every two weeks or once a month. the microbes are beneficial and will eat up the gunk - causing the smell to go away. its like when your plumber puts that foam stuff in your pipes to clean it out. they use enzymes mixed with chemicals. Bio Klean does a similar thing, only maintains over time instead of shocking the system for one time use. you cant use it with chemicals or you'll kill the microbes. so if you use it, dont use bleach too. anyway. try it. you'll smell the difference.

I think the effect will be, your disposal will smell better for about a week, then it will start smelling like it did before. You would not have as many odor problems if you run the disposer whenever you drop something down there and make sure you let some water run to rinse out the particles.

I dont agree with the bleach,You can pour baking soda down the disposal to stop the odor,y ou can put ice cubes in and grind them to sharpen the blades,I dont know if you are leaving the water on long enough to completely chop up the food and dispose of it down the drain and it is sitting in the disposer which will rot it out and rust the blades

If you're just trying to clean the garbage disposal, there are much better ways - chunk up a rawpotato and throw it down, or dump some ice cubes in and grind them up - this will clean off the blades and help keep them sharper for longer. For the smell, throw down a lemon or lime, or some orange peels.

Why? What is wrong that you need to consider putting bleach in the disposal?
The only maintenance a garbage disposal should need : use cold water to run it, put ice in it to sharpen the blades (add a handful every month), and put lemons or limes in it to make it smell nice. That's it.

Buy a bottle of pure lemon juice. Pour it down the disposal every 3 weeks . It's very inexpensive plus it smells great. If you use lemons put them in the disposal after your done with them .Good luck . PS ,you can also use vinegar .Although it don't smell as good as pure lemon juice.

Most guys look better clean shaven. But then you get guys like Dominic Monaghan, who definitely looks better with a little scruff. The thing is, scruff is a small bit of hair, not the full blown beards hipsters are sporting these days. That just looks like Duck Dynasty - nasty.
