Don't know of any hidden meaning, it was just a period of reason and enlightenment that begot endless scientific and mathematical progress. It did not, as the person above noted, mark the end of the Middle Ages. The Middle Ages were the transitional period between the Dark Ages and the Renaissance. The Middle Ages carried little importance compared to the Renaissance. The Renaissance was not just a marker. Simply speaking, it was the revival of interest in ancient cultures, particularly the Greeks and Romans, and an attempt to further the knowledge given by them. And there was no jousting and such during the Renaissance, that was a characteristic of the Dark Ages and Middle Ages. Renaissance festivals are actually highly inaccurate. Don't let the person above fool you; she seems to have no factual knowledge of that period in history.

There is a hidden meaning behind the Renaissance?
The Renaissance is a period in European history from about the 14th through the 16th centuries regarded as marking the end of the Middle Ages. This period in time featured major cultural and artistic changes.
Renaissance Festivals and Fairs are very popular these days as are many things relating to the Renaissance such as the clothing that they wore and the jousting and other activities that took place.
There is a resurgance of interest in this period of history.
A hidden meaning? Sorry, I have never heard of one.
Blessings,
Lady Trinity~
