A computer is a machine and like any machine is open to fail or break down. It happens to the human body as well. Parts wear out or become weak, components don't work together. Breakdown is the result.

There are oodles of reasons.
The number of components, each of which can become defective. All the peripherals attached that can impact the computer negatively.
Software problems. 'Pilot' error (a major problem in itself).
Deterioration as the systems age.
Power fluctuations.
