If the injury isn't serious, they usually come back quickly.

If the injury isn't genuine, it's just a part of the storyline, and they return when the creative department writes them back in to get revenge. Often times, they will stage an injury in a match that will allow them time to heal or go into surgery for a nagging injury that has grown worse over time. A good example of this is when The Big Show chokeslammed Kurt Angle off of a platform, and Kurt returned in a wheelchair as the GM. It allowed the WWE to take advantage of Kurt as an onscreen character while still giving him time to rehab his injured back and neck that have gone untreated for 2 years.

If an injury is serious, such as when Triple H tore his quad, they usually sit out for quite a while.

everyone knows the fights are choreographed and matches are fixed, its all based on storylines for entertainment value. however, even with choreographed matches, accidents do happen...eg, triple H's torn quad, scotty 2 hotty breaking an ankle a few years ago, torn knee ligaments (rvd and lita have both torn their anterior cruciate ligament in the ring in the last 2 years) and yeah when the wrestlers get injured like that then its a long lay off, but sometimes the injuries are part of a storyline, to give the wrestler a week or two off, to make it seem more intense when they come back after their 'recovery' and get revenge. hope that answered your question

The fights are choreographed to minimize any injuries. In simpler terms, wrestling is fake and the matches are fixed.
