My mother used to tell me that if I ate too much salt, it would dry up my blood. It scared me to death to picture myself ending up with veins full of powdered blood, like a human Pixie Stick.

This is long sorry. When I was ten my mom told me (while we were running for exercise) that if I got good enough at running it would start to feel like flying. Well I thought she knew so i trained hard, took up track. Ran a 5 minute mile, ran everyday in the Army and one day realized that it would never feel like flying, that I was insanely fit and I would always hate running. I called her and told her, she couldn't even remember the event. So as parents we need to be careful what we say.

I had a bike route, posted on the fridge. It had a map drawn of the streets I was allowed to go, how many blocks down and stuff. My mother told me that if I strayed from my bike route, she would know, and I'd be in big trouble. She put the fear of God in me all the time. She also said that if I picked scabs, I would turn into one big scab.... man, my mom lied alot... I'm gonna go have a talk with her.....

My mom used to tell us if we drank too fast from a straw that the suction would reverse itself and we'd get sucked up in the straw. Boy, did that cause some serious nightmares back then. And imagine - I grew up somewhat normal. Go figure.

Too many to list but the one that stayed with me was not to go down to the basement because the boogeyman would get me. I am to this day still afraid of the dark and open backed stairs

My dad told me that I should finish what was on my plate because of all the starving kids in China. I never figured out how my finishing my food was going to help them.

mom would say apple trees would grow in my stomach if I keeped swallowing the apple seeds on purpose. nothing happened. my dad would say he would break me in half like a stick if I "kept it up". I am still in one piece.

My mom told me if I kept eating cookie dough I would get salmonella poisoning. That still didn't stop me from eating it though.
