Deja vu is the feeling that you have already experienced something once and are "reexperiencing" it.

From How Stuff Works:

"The phenomenon is rather complex, and there are many different theories as to why déjà vu happens. Swiss scholar Arthur Funkhouser suggests that there are several "déjà experiences" and asserts that in order to better study the phenomenon, the nuances between the experiences need to be noted. In the examples mentioned above, Funkhouser would describe the first incidence as déjà visité ("already visited") and the second as déjà vecu ("already experienced or lived through"). "

The term "déjà vu" (French for "already seen", also called paramnesia) describes the experience of feeling that one has witnessed or experienced a new situation previously. The term was created by a French psychic researcher, Émile Boirac (1851–1917) in his book L'Avenir des sciences psychiques (The Future of Psychic Sciences), which expanded upon an essay he wrote while an undergraduate French concentrator at the University of Chicago. The experience of déjà vu is usually accompanied by a compelling sense of familiarity, and also a sense of "eerieness," "strangeness," or "weirdness." The "previous" experience is most frequently attributed to a dream, although in some cases there is a firm sense that the experience "genuinely happened" in the past.

Deja-vu is a French phrase which means seen before. It is the feeling that you were in some situation before. It applies to everything you feel you did or saw before. Examples include seeing people, doing things...etc. While scientists said it is a result of change in the blood flow to the brain, which causes the feeling of "being there already", some religions, such as Buddhism and the Druze sect of Islam, believe it is a proof of the reincarnation phenomenon, that is the person reincarnated in you has done this thing "in his life" and that's why you feel you did or saw or said it once in the past. Now please don't ask what is re-incarnation :)

Deja vu is the feeling one experiences when he/she believes that what is being experienced has been experienced before--a feeling that you already did something, saw something, said something, were in the same circumstances before. Its like re-living a part of your life and having a feeling that its familiar or like rewinding a movie and watching the same scene over again....a feeling of familiarity or knowing what is going to happen next.

The word deja vu means in French, "already seen."

Deja vu is while something occurs and it seems particularly widespread to you, as in case you have considered this 'scene' until now or have been there, finished that until now, yet you relatively have not. the yankee history Dictionary defines deja vu as: déjà vu (n.) the phantasm of having already experienced something relatively being experienced for the 1st time. desire this facilitates!

It's when you feel you've previously had an experience that is actually a new one.
