Aren't Public schools government-established, politician- and bureaucrat-controlled, fully politicized, taxpayer-supported, authoritarian socialist institutions?

School boards are elected by the public. Politicians are elected by the public. I do agree with you to a degree but as the public we have the power to change things if it were important enough to us.

No. The founding fathers were all pro-education. Communists have perverted/misrepresented what they stood for, as have misguided libertarians. The founding fathers all believed that a person born from wealth was no more or less capable of contributing to society than a person born in poverty. They believed that the pursuit of happiness should be an equal pursuit to all. In fact, Thomas Paine went so far as to suggest that we should start everyone off at the time of majority with exactly the same amount of wealth. While at first glance this may seem a bit socialistic or communistic, it is actually quite a capitalistic idea, for the person born of wealth must pull up his or her bootstraps and work as hard as a person born of poverty to make something of him or herself. The theory behind public education and Ben Franklin's public library idea is the same. Educate all equally when they are of minority age and turn them out into the world on an equal standing to fight and make something of him or her. It is really a glorious idea; we just need to remove the communists out of our educational system, so people can actually start to learn again.

Here! Here! I am continually amazed at how History is being re-written and re-taught, conveniently leaving certain aspects out so to "sway a new generation!"

This example is a little specific to Health Classes being mandated by the state, but I overheard a public speaker from Planned Parenthood talking to her mother while I was having my hair done.

She was explaing that, in her high school health class that day she was sharing with the children that they have "choices" then went on to share that she is exercising her "right to choose" by having an IUD implanted in her to stop her periods, because she is a homosexual and until she is old enough (She was a young college student) and has enough money for a total sex change operation she will stop her periods through other methods.

I just about fell off my chair. I whipped my head around and said, "And THAT, my dear, is exACTly why my child will not be attending her health class on the day that Planned Parenthood is speaking!"

Of course they told me I was a horrible mother by not allowing my child the right to become "informed" and make her own "choices". bleh! I almost got up and walked out with my hair half finished.

If only I could CHOOSE to defer my tax dollars to the school of my choice with my values...

Yes it is. And it's a shame that they are now making public school the battleground for the liberal/conservative debate. The environment in public school shouldn't be any different than the environment at the workplace.
As in the workplace, those who excel in school should be rewarded and advance at their speed. The curriculum should contain scientific facts only.
Through clubs or groups, students should be able to discuss or celebrate any type of religious beliefs. In other words, if a Christian club wishes to display a manger scene on school property during Christmas, they should be able. The same would go for any other religion.

I agree and there is a simple solution just assign the money that the government alot for each student I think it's over $10,000 per student to the parents(can only be used for education) instead of the school systems and just watch competition explode to get some of that money and watch the poor schools either improve or wither and die, if you look in American society any industries that compete for our dollars we end up getting better products at lower prices.

Remember this, They only teach you what THEY THINK YOU OUGHT TO KNOW. Having worked within the system i can assure you it`s bull$hit. The education system public and private are nurturing a nation of idiots, and that is how they like it. In 25 years the world will be unlivable for people of our generation.
