Thanks for the quick responses. I was thinking a whole carrot would be too hard to break, but after reading your concerns i;d rather not take any chances.
ps: Is celery stick ok? she loves real food the teethers dont impress her much :-( her safety comes first but im trying to find some real food shecan chew on during dinner time. (besides her little veggie puffs)

I wouldn't. Pieces of the carrot could break off. The chocking risk isn't worth it. Buy one of those teething rings that you put in the fridge. It will be nice and cold on her gums.
If you are giving it to her at mealtimes, you might try Gerber Biter Biscuits or Zwieback toast.

I read an article on teething on www.babycenter.com. They mention not to give a carrot due to choking hazard, but no further details about why giving a carrot poses hazard. My guess is that if an adult is not watching while the baby is gumming that carrot the child can choke if he/she accidentally puts the carrot in their mouth with the tip going in towards their throat, or another scenario as others have mentioned, is there's also the chance the baby could choke if the carrot just happens to break, and the piece that's already in their mouth lodges in their throat. Even if giving a teething cracker, the adult needs to watch the child while they are gumming on it. I have a box of Baby Mum-mum Rice Rusks and on the outer box they have a warning, telling you to watch the child (even though the baby mum-mum softens up in the mouth with all the saliva). Really, I think the safest teething toy is one that is slightly flexible, durable, and filled with sterilized water. You can put this kind of teething toy in the fridge (not the freezer or it'll burst and you have to buy a new one). I bought this type at walmart for less than 4 bucks. At least you know that if it breaks, it's only water, and not some strange chemical gel.

Please do not do this. If the baby bit off too large of a piece it could become lodged in he air passage causing him/her to choke. You should never give them anything hard or round to eat, such a grapes, or hot dogs, without cutting in very small bites. They can even become choked on crackers if you do not break the cracker into small bits. If you give the baby a teething biscuit, watch how small the piece gets because they can also get the small piece lodged in their air passage. You can buy the chew shapes that has liquid that you can put in the re-fridge and get cold. No danger of getting choked on them, and they can bite away to their hearts content. Also to all you mommies who read this, please get your CPR certification in the event your child needs resusitation. You will be able to save their life in most cases. No celery, too stringy

No! This is a huge choking hazard even if you are in the room. Stick with teething rings and toys they are much safer. Do not take this chance.

depends on if she has teeth or not...I would let mhy daughter chew on anything that was bigger than her hand as far as lenth goes. now she has four bottom teeth and three top so i know she would break it off if she were to try and eat a carrot. (my daughter is nine months)

Not safe! Try freezing a cold wet new or clean clean washcloth for her to chew-it soothes achy gums! Give her a kiss for me!

I wouldn't, I was told to stay away from carrots and hard veggies... steam them, cook them and give small bites.
