Because men aren't interested in their minds. Now, if you pay attention to both appearance and mind, you wind up with a shallow yet interesting man. Otherwise, you just wind up with a grunt. Men don't put any value on a woman's mind until AFTER they put a value on the wrapping of that mind.

Personally, I would like to think that we all are improving our minds daily. If you do nothing but watch the evening news, hopefully, you learn something. If you do nothing but watch a young child play in the park, or, look up at their parent with that innocence that says,"You are my hero", hopefully, you learned something. We are all given the chance to "improve our minds" everyday. Some of us just don't act on it. "Improving our minds" to me, means "seeing" and "listening" and "trying new things".
We all could do a little more of that......not just women.

I guess I'm not most women! I'm not really into my appearance, but I do like to look decent. Well, I love my mind much more, so I like improving it! :-)

Because it's easier and the appearance is something you see with your eyes, not with your soul. Improving your mind takes way more effort.

Our society is obsessed with looks not intelligence. I know a lot of women who were raised to act dumb but look pretty. That was the way to get a husband. Current celebrities further this trend. Very few of them act like they have any intelligence.

Hi, good question...
Because this day and age and with all the stuff we see on tv it's hard for woman to think they can get ahead by any other means. Some woman are using the term "use what your momma gave ya" literally. Your mother also gave you a brain so they should use it. It will get you so much further in life.

Hey girl - who you calling fickle?! lol....
I think it depends on age, really. I think when you're really young, it's all about what's "in" in terms of looks, as you begin to discover the "power" behind looking good on the outside.
I have found once we women hit the age of 30 (oops - just giving myself away here!) we realise that we KNOW instictively how to look good on the outside, and so we stop following the crowds or fickle fashion and allow ourselves to let out that thus-too repressed intellectual animal. And the combination is DYNAMITE... but don't tell the young-uns, see?.... It's the kind of power that really moves mountains and we don't wanna have to go re-arranging all our relationship maps! lol...

I don't. If you ever saw me, you'd agree that its true. I think beauty is skin deep. I try to develop my intelligence on a daily basis. I never put make-up to go out, and I wear jeans & t-shirts every day. I'm not out to impress anyone....If they don't like the way I look too bad. I want people to like me for my sense of humor and my personality in general. Therefore, I never go through the bother of primping to impress anyone.
