I started working at a software company as helpdesk consultant about 5 mounths ago. Now a opertunity to get another job in programming for other company as come up, but I currently know what to expect from my current imployer. My current job is a good job but the other is into the direction which I would like to move. Current pay is good but the other job offer is better. I know my current surcumstances but do not know if the new job would be for me.

people's biggest fears are change sometimes but I bet if you take the other job (I'm in programming too and had a similar situation), a year from now you'll be totally glad you did and wonder why you even considered staying at the other place at all - it's definitely worth the risk.

You raise many good issues -- issues we all have to deal with when deciding whether to stay at our current job or switch to a new job.
No one here can tell you better than your own inner voice what you should do. So, listen to your guts ... what are they telling you to do?
(Based on your question, it seems like your guts are leaning towards the new job.)

Do what you thing is best, and think carefully before deciding. If you accept a job you don't think you will like, in all probability you will not be happy there.
