i lost a complete year in engineering because i could not perform in an exam because of lack of sleep due to another exam i had the previous day.

You aren't wrong necessarily, however, when you get to the end of your life and are unhappy that you haven't done all that you know that you could have, you will have no one to blame but yourself.
Pick yourself up, and keep trying. Nothing that is worth while will come easy, you have to keep working at it.

Why give up on everything? Just take a break, a much deserved break, don't focus your energy so much on this -- we're all going to die someday, just enjoy the simpler things. Thinking about it and dwelling about it just prolongs the agony, much like breaking up with a loved one. Because you know in a few years, five years, ten years - it won't matter. It'll just be negatively wasted energy. But use this time to decide what you really want, analyze wether or not you're on the path you really want to be on -- take some online career guidance courses, don't worry about it so much, allow yourself to be lazy for a bit, don't stress.

You didn't prepare enough throughout the semester. You'd have let one exam disturb another (since you had to cram).
You're upset with one day's worth of problems?!?
You don't want to really know what's going to happen as you get older.... wear your helmet everywhere you go from now on if that's how you feel.
