Well, it is amazing the influence sci-fi has had on science the past 50 or so years. Asimov's 3 laws of robotics are in place in todays robots... lots of stuff. The show, "How William Shatner Changed the World" is a funny, but true indication of some of the stuff that has happened!

Hmmm -- just read some of the older HARD science authors -- Asimov, Clarke, etc. And --
"1. A man whose arm was severed in an accident receives a new arm from a human donor. Scientists and doctors attach the arm and the prognosis is extremely positive.
2. Scientists grow a human ear on the back of a mouse.
3. Scientists land a glorified go-cart on the planet Mars to gather intimate details about rocks with names like Yogi.
4. A small satellite propelled by an ion engine is speeding into deep space.
a decade ago every one of the above situations was pure fantasy. In fact, people may have been more likely to believe in "Star Wars" than the other scenarios that have become fact. Science and science fiction borrow from each other to entertain and to expand knowledge of the universe. "
Just do a search on "Science Fiction becomes fact" and you will find MANY sites to attest to this -- fact!

It is as real as you want it to be. Many real life devices started out as science fiction and some people decided to turn them into science FACT.
20,000 leagues under the sea is a good example of that.
naming a Space Shuttle Enterprise is another.

Science fiction is 'real' in that the books are real, the genre exists in the literature market, the words were typed by real people, some of the technology in sci fi books is real, or was created after the books were authored.
Instead of asking if it's real, it might be fun to ask how you could prove it if it WASN'T real.

What aspect of it?
Or rather what zoological aspect of it?
I hate vague questions... -_-;
The simple answer is: NO.
There might be aliens out there... but we haven't found any yet, and we're statistically unlikely to ever find any. Even if we did find life elsewhere in the Universe, the odds are heavily in favour of it being merely bacterial... and no more complex than that. Afterall... eukaryotic life has only been around on this planet for around a billion years at most.... and for the 2.5 billion years before that, the bacteria were alone.

it has an amazing influence on research and a lot of sci fi writers have a heavy science backround or at least do research before they write
