Our guttering feeds into next doors guttering which has not been maintained for some time. The pipes are obviously blocked which cause rain water to fall on to our flat roof. Is it our responsibility to pay for half of the cost of replacing it? The blocked guttering is all on his property. We have replaced ours. If our neighbour continues to refuse to maintain his property can we take action? Many thanks.

The truth is you should do all you can to protect your property. Guttering is cheap. Water damage is expensive. So call your neighbor and tell them when you have selected three bids to have the gutters repaired. Tell them you'll pay up front and they can reimburse you for half. This way you know the true cost and can be the one to select the best bid.

As you are willing to pay 1/2 towards the work it would be easier fo you to put a gutter outlet in your gutter and run a downpipe on the front of your house that way any water would be discharged at ground level the dirt would would act as a stop so the water would flow down the pipe

what your better doing is cutting the gutter at the point where it meets his put an external stop end on his gutter.he his now disc connected at your end.then get a running outlet cut your gutter back allowing for length of outlet and expansion with sun put an internal stopend in your end of the outlet where it buts up to he's.you can now put your own down pipe on and discharge on your flat roof or a water tub to use on your garden.you can direct it anywhere you may have your own gulley to go into.the problem is his now.only cost £10max for all the bits and a couple hours max time.ebo

I answered this identical question last week.
Go to your neighbour and speak to him in a normal tone of voice.
Hello Mr Brown are you aware that the water is cascading all over our flat roof, thought I would bring your attention to it in case you did'nt know.. Thank you.
It is actually possible that he does'nt know, as it is not affecting his property. Always try the polite approach.

Do you rent? Is it a duplex? If, Yes, then it's the landlord's responsibility to maintain the structure. If you are separate owners, then get the two systems separated for crying out loud!

if they won't clear their gutter, ask if you can do it. anything can be sorted out if you talk about, then sit down and listen to my pink half of the drainpipe by the bonzo dog doo dah band, that'll put a smile on your face.
