My theory is that it was a self-inflicted injury which he will later claim during the next election as an old war wound.

It really depends on the views of the voters in Mass. Mr Kerry has very little chance of ever becoming president. The majority of American voters have already spoken on that possibility in the 04 election. I found the comments by Mr. Kerry tragic, but not necessarily in a political sense. I believe his explanation that he was trying to attack the president and the president is a legitimate target. However, what he did was inadvertently demean the troops. Mr. Kerry has apologized to the troops and I am okay with that. Calls for his resignation behind this were and will continue to be partisan over reaching as this doesn't rise to the level of scandal required to demand resignations. I am a conservative, but I do not believe in playing politics with every issue just because you do not like the person. What I find more distressing is the people who believe that Mr. Kerry was right in the comments whether they were misinterpreted or not. It shows a total lack of respect for the military and military people in general. These people would do well to remember that yes they have the right to free speech, but it is the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines willing to put their lives on the line who make that right possible.

I think you will find that in the long run this will turn very positive for Kerry. He has the ultimate proof that the republicans base their world on lies and deception. Given enough time he could make that very apparent for everyone now. We may be witnessing the idea that republicans are just morally correct, is going to die.

No, he pointed out the obvious. I truely believe it was calculated self promotion. Maybe he shouldn't risked implying that our guys in Iraq are poor or unable to make the grade in school. Kerry has nothing to be "sorry" for.

Yes, but who wanted reruns of a failed candidacy anyway.
He can't campaign worth a darn, or he would have smashed that swiftboat thing right out of the box, instead of waiting and letting the story grow. Hes a bright man, but bright don't wash the dishes, and we are more interested in sex than substance.

Kerry wasn't going anywhere soon anyway.

It sounds to me like his supporters still support him stating a misinterpretation of his words and his detractors are the ones who are responding negatively to his statement, so I'd say no.

At the very least, he shot himself in the foot (or a little higher). That's what happens when you run your mouth before you put your brain in gear.

If there was any chance left for him to run for the Presidency, he probably extinguished it.

Thank God for small miracles.
