In the UK, the law states/suggests that when the eldest child reaches ten if the children are different sexes, he or she will need her own room.

I always heard it was at the age of 5 a child could no longer share a room with a sibling of the opposite sex. I'm not sure what the law truly is regaurding this though... especially cause I don't know where you live, but I would suggest contacting the human resources center nearest you and simply asking. Good luck!

There is NO law regarding the age at which children can no longer share bedrooms in Britain. There are guidelines issued by social services to their foster carers, but ther is no law. The guideline is that children over the age of 12 should not share a room if they are of different genders.

I don't think there is a legal age i'm afraid. My sister has the same problem with a 6 year old girl and 9 month old boy and all the council are offering her are 2 bed places (which aren't fit for human habitation in my opinion anyway!)
Check with Citizens Advice tho. they'll be able to tell you for sure.

Your daughter needs to be 12 I'm afraid, because according with the council your son is young enough to share with you or his sister, also remember that the front room is counted as living space. One thing that you could do is ask to be put on the exchange list, look in loot and local websites (council housing site). Good luck, I hope they can sort it out for you.

I'm not sure of the age, but I do know they should not share the same room. Some of my friends work for the state's child services and I've heard them talk about this topic a little before. If you have a good friend that works in that line of work you might ask them. I wish you the best of luck.

9 or 11, sorry can't remember which.
but i think thats the younger of the 2 siblings, so you've got another 6.5 years at least before the council are forced to do something about it.

Normally 12 unless your daughter starts puberty earlier - the housing would need confirmation from you doctor.-- medical grounds.
