Banker's Draft
A Banker's Draft provides a secure means of making larger payments where it is not convenient or desirable to use cash. Drafts can be obtained from any one of our branches and are a guaranteed method of payment.

Simply go your branch and go to the counter, ask for a Bankers Draft or Counter cheque for the amount you require and they will ask you who you need it to be made out to. The money will either come directly out of your NatWest account or you can give them the cash. Just make sure that they do not charge you for it as some banks do.

Go to a Branch of Natwest and take your switchcard.

If draft is for an amount over £999 also take your passport or Driving Licence.

Go to the customer service desk.

They will need to know your account details. Exact amount of draft and whom it is to be made payable to.

You must have cleared available funds in your acount for the amount of the draft.

The clerk will prepare the draft for you which will take around 20 minutes depending on the amount of the draft.

Your acount will be debited for the total amount of the draft plus the Draft Fee which I think is currently £15.00.

Hope this helps.

The real answer is because the drawing bank still reserve the right to stop payment on the draft. It is NOT cash. It is drawn on cleared funds, but if the draft got stolen or lost they would have to stop payment. Years ago we used to be able to phone the bank branch that drew the draft and get a verbal agreement that it was 'clear', but unfortunately too many fraudsters have spoilt that and nobody is happy to take that risk any more. It's the same old thing - a few people spoiling it for the rest.

Ring them up, as banks usually like some notice before you need it. There will normally be a fee for a bankers draft, but they will arrange for it to be done and availavle for pickup at a close branch for you.

Walk in ask for a bankers draft to be made payable to "Mr Money Bags" and they then check your account and if the funds are init, they issue the draft on the spot and you then walk out all happy and pay it to him.

I got one recently from a branch and it took them a couple of hours to produce. Costs about £12 for the privilege of getting your own money
