I would say that Maverick was a favorite of mine and many people. The character portrayed by James Garner was a very like able person. The show was more of a comedy at times, than a western. Gunsmoke was also very good, and on for a very long time. And Bonanza was the first western broadcast in color.

I used to watch westerns a lot when I was a kid. Some of my favorites were the Rifleman,Big Valley,Wagon Train and of course,Gunsmoke & Bonanza. The main reason I liked them was because they told stories of people surviving despite tremendous hardships.
