I am not an American and consequently not qualified to answer the question. From the run of the answers, however, I cannot help feeling that Americans have only cross the Pacific and did not go much in the interior. Consequently their choices are limited to Japan,Hongkong,Thailand and one vote for China. One vote for Pakistan but it is from a naturalised Pakisani.India appears almost by default.Their choices also seem to be dictated by political consideration. The casting vote for Japan shows this.Perhaps the more widely travelled Americans did not participate in the question-answer game.

Out of Japan, Korea, Viet-Nam, and the Philippines- I liked Japan more. I think only because they were more modernized. More convenient and political stable, safety. But that was about 40 years ago. Things may have changed by now.

I've never been, but there are a number of Asian nations I'd love to see - most of them, in fact.
If I had to choose only one to visit, I'd choose China. If I chose one to live, it'd be Japan.

I have an opinion and this is it:
I would probably choose Japan even though they are killing the US auto industry. I would not be too fond of flying into that floating air port, though!
PS The Irish did not single handedly build America. They may have helped but there were tons of others helping, too.

Personally I have no preference. I really don't have the urge to go see any of them either. I would love to see all the states and sites there are to see in America and Canada. There is more than enough in North America to keep me busy for a lifetime.

I liked Hong Kong when I visited there because it was very cosmopolitan but still retained an essential Chinese culture. It felt "western" friendly to this American.
