People now do not realise that mass-media advertisements are a modern substitute for a salesman. A century ago almost all products were pedalled door-to-door straight to the consumer. But now we see what we want on TV, go to a super store and load it in our own cart, pay for it and take it home. The door-to-door salespeople now call only on the buyers for the retail stores.
So which do you think would be better: a TV commercial which you can mute, ignore, or just skip the channel, or a salesman knocking at your door each day to show you the best potato chopper ever invented or maybe the latest innovation in women's hygienic products?
I personally think advertisements are great.

If Ads Were A Curse, We Wouldnt Know About 3/4 Of the Products Displayed On Supermarket Shelves. Apart From That If There Were No Ads. We Wouldnt Get To See Half The Movies And Daily Soaps As Well As Lve Coverage Of Important Events In Our Homes For Free. So I Guess Ads Are Important. Inspite Of The Fact That Majority Of The Ads Are Very Very Annoying.

Not at all dear. Advertisement is rather a boon for u which constantly guiding & drawing ur attention that what exactly the product is & what r the real advantage of using it. because ad always throws light on the very unique features of the product with the comparison with other same kind of products. so would be able to know how exactly the product is.
Now the question is misleading from the ad. One should be smart enough to judge the things by the call centre or customer care number or by a personal visit if accesible. even there are rules that any manufacturer or the producer of the product or the company itself can not right anything false about the product. it has to write which is nearer or revolves around the product in context of law.
Again it all depends on how smart purchaser or customer u are...

Advertisements help make / break a company. Good ones means money rolling in. And they pay large amounts of money to get the good ones on the air, in newspapers and on the radio. Advertising means your companies name is out there, and even if bad publicity (like calling them a curse) you still remember the company name, which means great revenue.

Well, they sure aren't a blessing. They should be declared illegal, especially in newspapers. Just think what we would save:
1) Many trees
2) Energy to haul the trees to the pulp/ paper manufacturers.
3) Energy to convert the pulp into paper.
4) Energy to haul the paper to the printer.
5) Energy to print the ads.
6) Energy to haul the ads to the customers.
7) Energy to haul the ads to the landfills.
8) Space in the landfills.
Get rid of the ads and let the newspaper rise or fall on their journalisits merits.
At least with TV commercials, we've got a remote. Thank God for the "Mute" button. We can also flip to another channel.
