They should only stay hard for a few days, but as for the leaking... be prepared to deal with this for a while. They'll leak whenever you hear your baby cry, they'll leak when he doesn't eat at his scheduled time, and they'll even leak for no reason out in public at the most embarassing time! My son is 5 months old and they still leak everyday! Invest in some breast pads that will absorb the milk when it leaks and that will prevent the embarassing moments!

I concur with Emilaid - engorgement lasts for a few days; however, leaking can last for a few months. The cabbage leaves are supposed to be great for engorgement; some reccomend cutting a hole for the areola/nipple.
Other things that can be helpful are taking a warm shower and letting the water run over your breasts, and expressing just a little milk to soften the breasts if it is difficult for baby to latch on due to engorgement.
To deal with leaking, I found Lansihoh breast pads to be the most helpful. They stick in your bra, and are thin and not obvious!
Oh, and stay away from tight and underwire bras when you're engorged - they can cause plugged ducts and lead to mastitis (breast infection - ouch).
By the way, congratulations!

I felt like I had implants put in for the longest time. It seemed long. It was really about 1 week because I was breastfeeding. Its normal as long as its not really really hard. Make sure you get rid of the milk regularly, use lansinoh breast pads and warm/hot showers help. Good luck and dont give up!

Mine were like that for about 3-4 days both times. It's a bit uncomfortable but it's not for long. My midwife advised me to use green cabbage leaves. Take the leaf and score it with a fork then tuck it in your bra around your breast. Keep it in the fridge and you'll find it very soothing. Sounds strange but it did help!

Depends if you are suppressing mate then probably only a couple more days hopefully but if you want a tip to hurry the process Coca Cola helps dont ask me why a nurse told me in hospital to try it because my breasts were so tender as I was suppressing and she also suggested black tea

depends if you are breastfeeding or not. if you are if can be 6-8 months before you completely dry up if you are not if should take a few weeks to a month. just wear a tight bra and dont squeeze them. the more milk that comes out the more you produce.
good luck

If you are breastfeeding, it's going to be a while. If you are planning on formula feeding, then your milk should dry up completely in a few weeks. If you stimilulate your breasts and nipples, it will prolong the milk production. So if you are trying to dry up, don't pump or try to express milk unless you really have to.

it could be a few weeks or a couple months, really it depends is it your fist baby? if not it could last a little longer also if you take showers the water hitting your breast can mess with them so take baths and wear tight sports bras its supposed to help

Too long! I made a comment to my mom during that time, something about leaking out of everywhere! That period of time is annoying. Seems like you've got pads everywhere!
