Who says we will?
Java is popular now but most of the stuff actually doing big things is either in C/C++ or using ideas like Ruby, AJAX and the like.
Java is powerful enough and their are enough people trained in it that it is getting a lot of attention but it has serious flaws (as do alle xisiting systems) and it's long-term future is as unclear as is the future of any other language.

Java is usually chosen as the programmer does not have to worry about:
- differences in operating systems,
- allocation and deallocation of memory,
- other memory problems such as overwritten memory.

Because Java is more platform independant. Also, Java will soon be open-source, which some people consider a big advantage.
