What do you do if a baby has the hiccups? Are three month olds allowed to have water?

Our daughter had hiccups all the time, starting when she was still in-utero! The only sure fire cure for hiccups is patience and time. Nothing needs to be done for the hiccups. They will go away by themselves. When our daughter would get them, I would just distract her from them until they went away.

Water probably won't hurt a baby, but there's no nutritional value in it for them. Just give it a little time and the hiccups will soon go away.

Good luck.

Babies 3 mos. old can have small amounts of water. For the hiccups, put a drop of honey in the warm water. That should do the trick.
If a grown up has hiccups, they only have to say "Racheal Bolduc" out loud and it goes away''' Good luck

All babies get hiccups, just put him on your shoulder and pat his back a little until its over. My little guys were hiccuping in the womb! Perfectly normal, and straight water isn't necessary or really a good idea at this age. You're filling up his tummy with no calories when he needs room for his formula or breast milk.

Question: Should I give my newborn water or sugar water?

Answer: It isn't necessary to give your newborn water. Most babies get enough fluids from breast milk or infant formula. Even when a mother's milk supply is just coming in during the first few days after delivery, the baby is getting colostrum, which is enough to keep the baby well hydrated. Because a newborn's kidneys are immature, she has a difficult time concentrating her urine, and if given too much plain water, may have trouble excreting it. This could lead to dangerous changes in the concentrations of sodium and potassium in her bloodstream. For these reasons, infants should not be given extra fluids unless their pediatrician recommends it.

You can- but personally, we didn't. It's natural for them to get hiccups in the beginning- our son got the hiccups 3 times a day in my belly, and the same whenhe was first born. your baby will outgrow them, and not hiccup as much the older he/she gets. Tips while feeding, try to slow feedings down- don't let them get a lot of air, and try to take the bottle out of his/her mouth while feeding if he/she is really hungry and eating very fast. So take the bottle out for a second, then put it back in, and repeat that so they won't eat so fast.

Just know it's normal... I always felt bad for our son for getting them all the time, but they did go away- now he only gets them every so often- hardly not at all.

Goodluck!

My son was getting the hiccups every now & again between months 1 and 5. They stop on their own.

As for water, we've been giving it to him since he was 3-days old! He's been breastfeeding & water is beneficial to you both. Let him decide how much to drink.

I gave both my boys water!! I don't see anything wrong with it,everyone needs water. When they had the hiccups i put 2 oz of water and a very very little bit of sugar or i put a little bit of sugar on their pacifier. It really works my great grandma taught my mom that.

I gave both my kids water almost as soon as they were born. For hiccups just add a little sugar in it... It'll take them away.... Water is very good for babies.. Especially in-between meals.. hope this helps

Your Baby SHOULD ABSOLUTELY BE HAVING A SOME WATER EVERY DAY.Maybe two or three oz. They grow from nursing or formula, but stay hydrated from water EVERY DAY.

Google a baby web site to learn about normal needs of babies. Congratulations, take care!
