Some babies are wierd about going to the bathroom and gas. Keep in mind that he is still learning to master the gas thing. Soon he will be pushing it out like a pro. I could hear my daughter grunting through the night until she caught on.
In the mean time you can lay him on his back and move his legs like hes riding a bike. If he is constipated a warm bath might help. When my daughter was constipated my Dr. gave me a few options:
1. thermometer gently in the butt (it really works)
2. infant glycerin suppository (this can be messy)
3. 1tb corn syrup in 2oz of water (the more gentle option)
Ask your doctor what they suggest. Otherwise, its probably a phase that he will grow out of.

Ok I understand my son who is now 2 had the same problem when he was a baby. I could be if he is formula fed because formula is harder on their systems. When babies have to have a bowel movement and get the urge to push they will and it can cause them to tense up alot just the same as when you were in labour and got the urge to push. With my son we added a little bit of corn syrup to his bottle don't add much though one because you will put your baby on a sugar high and second will give him diareha. For gas I use even on my daughter now she is 2 months it is called Ovol i swear by the stuff and if it works for her that says alot because she also has acid reflux disease. you can try and use heat as a way to release the gas as well. With my daughter I will either warm her blanket up in the dryer or if it is really bad I will put some warm water in the hot water bottle and let her lay on it worked like a charm the first time my grandmother showed that little trick to me. I thought she was crazy when she first mentioned it but what ever works to keep them comfortable.

It sounds like your baby has colic. The many answers about massaging his little belly are good answers. Switching formulas is also a good answer. Colic is a very gassy state that sometimes last for a few weeks but can last for months. It is very uncomfortable and painful for the baby and completely frustrating for mom who has to deal with it for hours on end. You should really see the doctor about it just to be on the safe side; you never know what could be causing this situation. I say a prayer that the situation takes care of itself soon.

I have also had a child that had severe wind and used to get upset passing movements also and in the end after severe sleep deprivation on my part I asked my midwife and she suggested anti reflux formula even though he didn't have reflux as the formula is thicker and doesn't allow wind to sit in pockets as its too thick and I found this helped she has also advised me if getting upset at movements then add 10ml extra water too bottles as makes it easier to pass movements also or just give a drink of water in between a bottle good luck mate there is nothing worse than wind I feel for you but also know that newborns are going to get upset at really anything thats slightly uncomfortable they do eventually accept it even if it does take a while

This is going to sound really weird but it really works. Take a warm towel and lay it on top of the dryer. Place your little boy on top of the towel on his tummy and turn the dryer on high. The motion and the heat help with the gas and make him feel alot better. I spent many a nights when my daughter was little and had the same problem in the laundry room standing over the dryer. Good luck I hope you find this helps.

I know it sounds silly but it works like a charm...my daughter had the same thing....
Massage him with warm baby oil (usually you can warm it right in your hands before applying to the skin, or put the whole bottle into a pot of hot water for a few minutes)
Start at the feet and work your way up, the touch, sense, and friction will calm him and you'll not only see a difference in how he reacts to his bowel movements but overall as well!
Best medicine out there!!!

I dont know much about babies, or why he may be screaming before a BM, but I know that my cousins baby had trouble going to the bathroom and my cousin would have to take the babies legs and push them up to her abdomen (like in a fetal position) and hold them there for a while and she finally went to the bathroom. Also my little sister had that problem and my mother had to put a little karo syrup in her bottle. But ask your doc before you do that because I dont know how much or anything.

Mylicon is an absolute miracle for gas. My son was a very gassy baby, they stuff is a life saver I kept a bottle in the diaper bag. Also moving their legs in a circular motion, kinda like if they were riding a bike,

Try 1/2 teaspoon of dark karo syrup in his bottle once a day. My son has the same problem. I used to have to give him suppositories every 3 days before he would go but now I just give him the karo syrup and it works like a charm. His doctor did tell me to do the karo syrup.

1-2 oz of warm peppermint tea in the morning and at night. It's what my babies pediatrician recommends. It helps with the gas and constipation. Good luck.
