I had the same problem and it took quite some time before anyone figured it out. The AC drainage in the Jetta & Pessat is run threw a hose that goes from the AC to a drain under the back seat. A rather stupid idea, but not the first for VW. This hose (or the drain) can become clogged, and then the drainage ends up on your back floor. Have a service station find and clear the drain, and then disconnect the drain hose at both ends and blow it out with an air hose. This will solve your problem..

I've driven my friend's Passat and can vouch for its sports oriented handling and power. The interior is top notch and class-leading. The fit and finish excelled also. There was a certain 'presence' about the way it calmly took curves. We have a 2005 Jetta, however, if I need a larger car in future I'd definately buy a Passat.

Check around the trunk seal for cracks in the body seams
This is more than likely where your water is coming in from.
Sometimes an oversight on bodyshop repairs.

Then go with jeeps idea.

best way is to climb into trunk with good flashlight. have a trusted friend close trunk and proceed to water roof, rear window, trunk etc. with garden hose. You'll find the leak..
