According to a June 5, 2006 story in Business Week, several Democrats asked the Treasury Department to investigate a possible Venezuelan connection to a 100-year-old American voting machine company called Sequoia Voting Systems, located in Oakland, California.

In May 2005 Sequoia was bought by a Venezuelan company called Smartmatic. The sale was reviewed and approved by all pertinent governmental agencies.
According to the Business Week article, Sequoia's machines are used in California, Illinois and 18 other states.

My question is this.

If the Bush administration was so worried about this "serious" issue, why did Rove wait until nine days before a national election to express its concern to the public at large?

Does this mean that on November 8th, if the Republicans don't like the results of the Congressional elections, they will demand a "do over" in 20 states, based on alleged "new" information about a corrupt Venezuelan connection?

It is guaranteed, the election will be "too close to call" then 51-49 for Republicans

Since Hugo Chavez is a man of the people in Venezuela, Smartmatic's plan I am sure is to put their country in machine voting mode like the USA.
Since these machines are so easily hackable, they can then manipulate the vote there as Republicans have here, to oust Senor Chavez. Without machine voting, try as they might, the Corporate elite of Venezuela will never be able to regain the stranglehold they had held for so long over the common man. I am sure that is why the purchase was given the green light by our current Administration, much like Dubai Ports etc. It would certainly be plausible to see the Republicans attempt to blame Hugo Chavez for their loss of the congress and senate next week. Instead of thanking Diebold and the others who have corporatized and privatized our vote, should the final results not go their way.

Yeah,
Watch Hugo Chavez get 65 million votes and 67 electoral votes. Of course, there is NO such thing as a conspiracy is there.?

No, I think there will be some seats that get switched, but not NEARLY as many as the current polls and media tripe suggest. They are asking questions of people in big cities of swing states, not necessarily a cross section.

the dem's are the only ones who are are sore enough losers to cry foul and ask for a do over.

funny though that you site the machines are of venezuelan connection one of the biggest enemies the u.s. has...but then again it was probably a democrat who authorized the purchase of these machines so i am not surprised

The GOP has shown that it will stoop to any low level in an election (just look what Bush did to McCain in SC in 2000)
So yea anything is possible
