Anyone else remember during the 70s a series of film shorts for kids titled "The Big Blue Marble"?

They were meant to be messages of how to get along with others, peace, love etc through animated bits, songs & some real kids. There was a theme song ("Big Blue Marble") & a song segment called 'The Most Important Person".

Are kids even getting these positive messages on anything off tv today?

Big Blue Marble was a half-hour children's television series that ran from 1974-1983 in syndication. Distinctive content included stories about children around the world and a pen-pal club that encouraged inter-cultural communication. The show was a very early example of gentle multiculturalism.

There was a weekly segment in which a singing globe invited viewers to write letters to the show, often requests for pen pals. The address to send the letters was in Santa Barbara, California.

Production personnel included creator Harry Fownes, producer Rick Berman (later of Star Trek fame), writers Lynn Rogoff and Robert Wiemer, and directors Joseph Consentino and Peter Hammer.

In 1974,A&M Records released an album of songs from the show entitled Big Blue Marble. The master number for the album was SP-3401.

Funded by ITT, Big Blue Marble was syndicated to television stations throughout the United States and Canada.

Yeah, I vaguely remember the title. We didn't watch much television when we were kids - not allowed. There was always some reason we should clear out of the house and go outdoors! We didn't have cable television and didn't park out butt for hours on end in front of it. Kids are being allowed to watch too much television and not spend enough time being a kid - playing, doing chores, and spending time with their family. No, I don't see a lot (if anything) positive about kids and television today.

Most kids shows on early in the day Disney and PBS and even Nick (NOT SpongeBob) have good messages to kids. I do remember "The Big Blue Marble" and it was cool.
