1.67GHz, 184 MB of RAM

But The RAM size is 256 MB.

I am guessing here but the most likely answer is that you have an integrated graphics system (no separate graphics card) and the graphics system is keeping a portion of you total RAM for its own use and therefore it is not available to the rest of the system.

PS: Buy some more RAM if you can afford it. 256 is only just enough nowadays.

most likely because your video card uses the other 72 mb for graphics processing. That, or you have a bad stick of ram

There may be many reasons for this problem. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful

do you use an integrated video card?
Maybe your video card use 64 mb from the ram
And memory sticks don't really have 256 mb

Thats how these devices are sometimes. You can buy a 1gb flash disk but you wont find 1gb free space or capacity on it - it is always than that.
