I think the idea is that a woman will look at those models and think, "Wow, if I wear that bra/panty, I'll look like Adriana Lima!!" Cuz that's what I think of course when I put on my Ipex bra.... They probably sell more lingerie that way.

Maybe they figure that men buy a lot of their lingere as gifts for their wives or girlfriends..
So, they figure that men will see the ads, get really horny, and then want to buy their underwear for their woman..
And, since guys really don't know anything about women's underwear, don't remember the type of underwear the girl had on in the commercial (since we were too transfixed by the model's big boobs) and in general aren't as good at comparison shopping as women are, when we get to the Victoria's Secret store, their salespeople will steer us to the most expensive items in the store.
Also, a lot of folks don't know this, but a guy own's Victoria's Secret - maybe he likes to have sexy busty women in the commercials just because he likes sexy busty women (and he gets to meet all of them, since he owns the company)

The point of Victorias Secret stuff is to make women FEEL sexy when they wear the stuff. If we see a sexy woman wearing it, it will make us feel more sexy when we put it on. Its not supposed to make us remember specific styles that the models had on, its just supposed to get us to mentally pair Victoria's secret products with being sexy, so when we want to be sexy, we naturally think of VS.

The Sexy tactics of Victoria's Secret are not meant to turn women on, they are meant to ignite their femininity within themselves. Women are beautiful, sexual beings, and Victoria's Secret tries to offer them a feminine touch to be able to make them feel sexy and desired, despite the fact that they are working 40 hours a week, going to school, having children, cleaning, etc etc. It reminds women they are sexy no matter what, and sexy can be comfortable as well.

Most modles for most things are sexy, or at least appealing. You rarely see a heavy person eating in a food commerical, even if it is for something like Wendys. Companys use attrative modles because in our mind we project ourselfs into their situation. If they use someone whos not very appealing, we would see that as an unappealing product. Using a sexy modle in VS add makes us think "wow! shes sexy in it, so ill be sexy in it". This doesn't always work with all people, but a lot of people think this way

some of us men do remember the names of the models and actually do research to find more of their work.
The idea behind it is, I think, besides trying to get us to make our girlfriends and wives go out and get the sexy stuff, is that it's more pleasing to the eye to have symetrical and ballenced women modelling. Do you think that not sexy women would increase sales. besides the strange fact that some women think that they will be more sexy if they wear these things, some men think that their women will look more sexy too.

Because Victoria's secret is....she's a slut!!! Actually it serves 2 functions. 1 - To get me in the store to buy items for their wives/girlfriends. 2 - Women can appreciate the female form and it gives them the confidence to try new items. It's all about marketing.
