on a building site, why is site security important?

ok it's important because when the work day is done. some people like to go and steel tools or material also someone playing on that site could get hurt and then sue the construction company and/or owner of the construction site

Mainly so that building materials can't get stolen. There are a few elements of health and safety.......for eg. knowing who is on site in event of accident so any missing persons are actually missed, consequently searched for.
