I know this may be gross... but it's just another part of giving birth...
I have often heard or read about people loosing their mucus plugs but always with some reference to "bloody show".. I think I may have lost my mucus plug this morning, or part of it.. as I am not really sure exactly how much or how big a mucus plug is, but it did NOT contain any blood. I went to the doctor yesterday because of some severe pain I was having in my belly, pelvis, groin and vagina... but she did not do a vaginal exam... she didn't think i needed one as I was not having contractions.
So my first question is: Did you experience any pain in your pelvic or vaginal area before you lost your mucus plug?
Number 2: Do you lose your mucus plug all at once, or does in start to come out periodically?
Number 3: Does it always contain "bloody show", or does it sometimes just look like a large amount of mucus?

I am 34 weeks (tomorrow) with my second child... I did not experience any of this with my first... I was induced because of his weight before I even got to experience contractions on my own.. so this is all new to me.

With my daughter, I lost about a dime size amount of my MP and that was it (that happened on a Friday). I called my doctor and he said it could be "weeks" before any sign of labor comes on (I was 35 weeks). I had my baby that Monday. So, start observing other symptoms, such as labor. The positive thing is, if you have your baby now, it will more than likely going to be healthy. My daughter was 5 lbs, 12oz, with virtually no problems (little respitory, but that is it). Good luck to you!

Congratulations, Your mucus plug comes away when your cervix starts to soften and begin to prepare to dilate, to begin the dilating process you have pressure there and it can be painful, It can come away either all in one or bit by bit, and been classed as the bloody show, its normally a sticky discharge, Ill look it up for you I found really good info on this the other day. so here it is.

Mucus Plug: Bloody Show
What does a mucus plug look like?
A mucus plug may be clear, slightly pink or blood tinged in colour. It may be stringy mucus or sticky discharge. Some women may not even notice the loss of their mucus plug because there is already so much vaginal discharge during pregnancy.

How soon after my mucus plug passes will labour begin?
Passing a mucus plug is a sign that your cervix is dilating and your body is starting to prepare for birth. Labour could be hours, days, or even weeks away as the cervix gradually opens over time.

I really hope this helps and answers your question. Best wishes.

I lost all of my mucus plug at once, it is about the size of the palm of your hand. Some women only loose a little at a time though. Mine did not have any blood at all in it, it just was a large amount of mucus. I had been having pain before and after I lost mine. However, I did not give birth until one month later

The mucus plug looks like a glob of Vaseline and may or may not be blood tinged(bloody show). The pain you describe maybe early labor pains, but can also be Braxton-Hicks or round ligament pain. BH is false labor, but mainly occurs in the lower back. Round ligament pain is when the pelvic girdle adjusts and opens wide preparing for child birth. I would almost bet that this is the issue your having, as the pain is mainly down very low, in the vaginal area.

Being that far along, yes, you could be in early labor. Rest, talk to your doctor, and be patient, your baby will be here soon for you to enjoy.

the loss of the mucus plug is different for everywoman. Some lose it all at once, some lose it periodically. Some have a bloody show, some have no blood at all. The pain in your pelvic area is just do to your advance stage and the weight of your baby. Almost all women experience that in the 3rd trimester..but isn't related to losing the MP.Why don't you call your dr and explain to him exactly what happened to you so he can advice you better. Good luck

It is supposed to look like a little bloody snot. I mean, there doesn't need to be alot of blood, but there is usually a little. And the size of the plug is a pretty good size. You can go to Google and go to images and look for the mucus plug. Usually no pain is involved in losing it and you may not go into labor for a long time after you have lost the plug.

Not to be Gross but it looks like a big light green booger, most time it does not come out all at once and you do not necessarily have to have blood in it - but keep your eyes out for what would look like mild spotting - where you have a bit of pink/brown along w/ the slimy booger- sorry don't know how else to explain :)
You should feel pressure in your pelvis - it just the baby settling down and getting ready to be born - you will feel uncomfortable - but its normal - and you will also notice that you belly sits lower now -
Congrats on your baby :)

All I can tell you is that it looks like a bog blob of mucus and does not have to have blood. Some women lose it all at once and some over the course of a few days.
