The hardest part about being a cashier is remembering to be polite and kind to everyone. Everyone has bad days and we have to respect that as people that work in the customer service industry. You get full training from anyone you choose to work for so its not as hard as you might think. Remember to be trustworthy, temptation stares u in the face, and yes its green. LOL Good luck and GOD BLESS!

Why did you post this question here? How odd. Anyway, being a cashier isnt all that difficult. You have to be able to learn quickly for one thing. Sometimes the equipment different stores use can be overly complex so the key is to really pay attention so that using the machine becomes second nature. Dealing with people can be a little demanding at times because some can be very demanding at times. The key is to relax, be pleasant and have an upbeat attitude.

It's easier now than it was before credit/check cards. Most people don't use cash now and I though the hardest part was making sure to give the right amount of change back. Even if you are good at math, sometimes the bills get stuck together (new money is terrible at this) and coins get put in the wrong part of the drawer. The other hard part is dealing with angry customers. It depends really on where the cashier is working and what kind of person he/she is.

Being a cashier is easy enough, dealing with some of the customers can be a bit trying. Especially after 2 am when can't sell booze, i've had people try to assault me.all in all after 6 years on 3rd shift only held up by gunpoint one time.

Simple .... just don't be in a rush and treat each customer as if they were family. Also remember that the customer is always right, don't get into an arguing match about an incorrect price on an item. Even if you know deep down inside that the customer is lying .. don't treat them like they are. Call a manager over if you feel you've lost a price war.

Be sure to learn everthing about the register. Be familiar with changing the tape. Nothing like not knowing how to change the tape with 50 customer in your line.

Keep a smile on your face and you'll be just fine. Remember ... treat them like family.

The cashier work itself is easy, but communicating with customers is more difficult and can be frustrating at times, because you get all kinds of customers and get all kinds of behaviors and attitudes and need to stay calm, polite and professional through it all.

I wouldn't call it an easy job and not a hard one either. It's something in between those two. You get tired and sometimes frustrated, but in general it's not a bad job I'd say.

Keep your confidence AND cool no matter how rude people get.
If your machine or you make an error, apologize immediately for the hold up and tell the customer that you hope the rest of their day goes better. These "feel good" tactics help diffuse others by acknowledging their feelings.

It has its good days and its bad days. It is a job, and if you are a quick learner it is an easy job. Although "people skills" isn't usually a requirement, I think it makes the job go faster and customers don't get as annoyed with you!

it's harder than you think, but fun once you get the hang of it. also it depends on where you work. some cashiers only run the register. others are responsible for cleaning and stocking as well. i've done it since 1987. i love the interaction with people , so it's perfect for me.......good luck!

it's not really that bad (but it has been a lot of years since I did it), except for dealing with an irate customer right in your face, and standing on your feet for a long time. Now I just have to deal with irates occasionally on the phone....they just can't see my face or that I'm flipping them off! LOL!
