The magician places several cards face down (so the backs are showing) on a table (I think it was 8 cards). The magician then turns his back and someone is invited to turn as many cards as they want around (e.g. rotate them 180 degrees). The magician then turns around and is able to identify exactly which cards were turned.

The man who showed me this trick could do it with ANY pack of cards and could even be out of the room as you were turning them. He also didn't have to look at you as he identified the cards so there was no way he cold have told from body language.

Please help if you know! Thanks!

If you look at some of the cards in a deck, you can tell if they are pointing towards a "up" or "down" direction. For example, if you look at a "five" or a "seven" card, you can tell if the middle suit (or symbol) is pointing "up" or "down". By knowing this, he can easily situate all the cards pointing "up". So, when you rotate it 180 degrees, he'll know that all the cards that are pointing "down" were rotated. I think this is how s/he does it. But, s/he could've done a different trick.
