Humans have menstrual cycles rather than mating seasons, right?
I'm interested in the changes that allows an animal to mate, and why it's at a specific time of year. And then the changes once the season is over and it continues living life as normal, minus the reproduction.

Many animals mate in the fall to reproduce in the spring when temperatures are moderate and food is abundant. This is triggered by day-length. This increases the likely-hood that the offspring will survive.
