Gosh, could even be God's Assassin! Featured Guy de Lusignan, Sybilla, and fighting Saladin at the Horns of Hattin. My paperback had a dark cover and coloured edges to book (blue, red?). I swapped it for Porterhouse Blue with another backpacker in France donkeys' years ago, but loved it and have tried to find it again with no luck, not knowing the author. Thanks!

Please - it goes without saying that I have tried Amazon and search engines!!!! Also tried a search facility at a bookshop. This is perhaps out of print.

I don't mean to be rude, but I have tried everything, except asking the world if it's on their bookshelf. It's not horror genre - historical adventure, perhaps. The hero used hashish, I remember that; supplied by someone called The Old Man of the Mountains, carried out assassinations in return (is derivation of the word).

It's not the Judith Tarr book, although that sounds similar. The one I'm after was written before about 1980.

On Lilith Saintcrow's website there's nothing by that name. She seems a bit young to have written the one I'm after, and also she seems to be a horror writer. More details needed, please!
