looking for a long haul destination (from the UK) - getting out there and back is no problems money wise however dont want to spend too much money whilst im out there e.g accomodation costs etc...
any suggestions please?

I still think you should go to Thailand! You should be going to a third world country if you want it to be cheap when you get there! I haven't been any where else apart from Thailand so I don't know, but I would stay in Asia if I were you! A week isn't nearly long enough though! You should have at least 3!

CHINA - wonderful country, did a trip out there the other year, via Thompson's tours, not a holiday so much as a tour, but so interesting. Good to get out there whilst they are still fairly un -commercialised. They are very clever people and catching on fast! Steeped in history, fabulous countryside, very friendly and interesting culture. It was my finest holiday!!! We did the wall, which was fantastic!!! The Terracota Army, Forbidden City, etc.
Want to go back and do the Yellow River next, saving hard!

south africa baby! cape town is just fab and cheap accommodation can be found everywhere there is so much to do....oh please will you pack me in your suitcase??!!
