Given the current events in the circus we call our Gov't, do you feel the system of checks & balances is really working, or is it simply my side against your side and whatever it takes to win or make you look like a schmuck? Put your politcal feelings aside, and give an honest to goodness answer. I feel it's a joke, and quite honetly I'm getting tired of it from both partys.

The current three branches of our government are much more like a three ring circus. One of the reasons it is so horribly screwed up is because one party controls all branches. We have a president exceeding his presidential authority and it's because his party who controls the other two branches are letting him. Anyone who thinks one party controlling the government is good for America is delusional, or, doesn't care about their fellow Americans. The past six years should be proof enough to prove the point. We need a turnover, and we need term limits. I was a lifelong Democrat, but dumped them several years ago because I felt they no longer represented me. I am now Independent and happier for it. Each and every election I am contacted by both parties courting my "swing" vote. Vote the person not the party.

I'll try. As long as politics is about raising money, it will be this way. To give money, Americans have to feel passionate about something, and a good v. evil scenario is the method of choice for both sides. If the US could go to a system of centrally-funded campaigns, and a much shorter campaign season, like is done in some other countries, I think a lot of this crap would stop. Campaign finance reform is a good first step--but it has to be simple, and have 'teeth' from the get-go. Listing all donors and amounts on DNC and GOP websites would be a good first step.

I believe there are a handful of extremely rich people who manipulate and run everything. To them, people are seen as a disposable, renewable commodity - nothing more. Anything else is propaganda designed to keep the masses content and subdued.

I agree it doesn't work. It is just an illusion to keep the masses happy thinking that they really count.
