Visit that site below. An internal network card is easy to install. All you do is snap the card into place, install drivers and check your settings. Make sure your setup on DHCP. You can check those settings by right clicking on My Network Places and choosing properties. Since your using a cable connection you don't really have to do much configuring.

Assuming your network "card" is really a "card", you simply power down the computer, open it up, plug the card in, close it again, and boot.
When booting, Windows will recognize the new component and might ask you to confirm that you installed new hardware. Network cards are so trivial, that this will be really painless.

You then plug the end of a network cable into the newly created connector on the back of your PC, and the other end into the cable modem. Then you're ready to go.

If I understand your question correctly, you are currently connected to your cable modem by a USB cable, and you want to connect with a patch cable.

Look carefully at the back of your computer for a socket that looks like a fat telephone plug. It is called an RJ45, and it has 8 wires. If you already have one, you do not need to install a network card. The other way to see if you have one is to right click on "My Computer", select "properties", "hardware", "Device Manager",Look for "Network Adapters". If you see the plus sign in front of "Network Adapters", click on it and see how many you have.

If you end up putting in a network card, there are illustrated instructions available, see link below.

Lastly, you will need a cable with RJ45 "fat phone plug" ends. They sell them at computer stores, Wal-Mart, the grovery store.

Depends what type of network card you are getting
if you are getting an internal one you need to install it yourself
if its a usb network card then you can just plug it in
