I'm at my thinnest when I'm a vegetarian. I always stayed under 120 and I'm 5'5". When I was 21, I started eating meat again and I slowly went up to about 150 after about 2 or 3 years. I had been eating lots of large meals but not that much junk food. I was very unhappy so I went on my first "diet". I wanted to lose weight but not have to follow too many rules because I knew I wouldn't stick with it. I cut all soda out (I drank Pepsi almost everyday) and I probably dropped about 5 lbs. from that alone, no junk food EVER, no bagels/croissants and I cut down on the amount I was eating, probably by half. I still ate "normal" food but just not as much. I also tried to stop eating full meals at night. It probably took about a year or two of this but I got back down to about 125. It kept trying to creep back up to 130 so I cut back on the meat. I'm 28 now and mostly vegetarian again and I stay just above 120.
The bad things are that I'm not very active and haven't really been since I was a teenager, that probably had a lot to do with why I gained weight in my early 20s. Also, when I was dieting, I was working long hours (often double shifts, not sitting down), drinking a lot of coffee, staying up for 36 hours at a time and sometimes I only had one meal a day (but I made sure it was big). I didn't really eat at work and breakfast was never much more than coffee.
Oh, I changed to 1% milk in the coffee, less sugar mixed in or the sugar substitutes instead.

No, I'm not battling, just exercising to maintain. I run everyday, do pushups and situps every morning and before I go to bed. It works for me.
