I'm not sure the fact that we are the most "spied on" country in the world correlates with a reduction in violence - it's unlikely that our every move/transaction is being recorded purely to end violent crime or that there is any concern from the authorities involved about the levels of said crime. Personally I do not think that we experience unusual levels of violence in this country and we ought to be more worried about why our civil liberties are being eroded by the amount of surveillance used against us. Why is this data being gathered?

Sure there are people that are more spied on than Americans...were new at this give it some time..of course you may not be around to enjoy the new country as in Nazi Germany many were hauled off..and we have secret prisons..so like I said give it some time don't be so damn impatient Bush is working on it.and soon we could cut the crime rate to zero as soon as all the populace is locked away..then everyone will be safe. first things first..we have to do away completely with civil liberties and due process..these things really get in the way and slow the progress. but bush has this under control too..we are well under way with doing away with these minor annoyances he no longer needs a court to obtain warrants and due process is almost completely done away with he simply has to call you a terrorist. give the man some time he has 200 years of freedom to wipe out and hes only been at it for 6 short years...look at the progress he has made it is amazing.

It is because of the head of government and the violence in the streets that the head doesn't seem able to control that you are being spied on.

In Northern Ireland, we have always been spied on in public areas such as our city centres for many years - for obvious reasons. However, the modern trend is towards spying by commercial agencies and businesses in the name of security.
In practice, this simply moves the clever criminal to another location, leaving the drunken moron to continue with his nightly performances outside our pubs and nightclubs.
Simply put, only a real moron gets violent in front of a camera.

You've been talking to some conspiracy theorists, haven't you? Spying takes place, no doubt, but not to the degree that you seem to think it does. We live in a free country and not only is "big brother" rarely in our business, unless we bring him into it, but it is often hard to even get a hold of him. And we are definitely NOT the most spied on as citizens, ever been to Eastern Europe, China, or North Korea?

If we are being spied on - someone 'Big Brother' should stop bad things from happening. If we are being watched all the time - why - it's not to keep crime down - or - if it is - it isn't working...
