I bought one and took it back. I traded it for 2 ceramic heaters. It didn't seem to heat very good.
I still use one of the ceramics in the bathroom when I shower. Another thing, the halogen heater seemed to make static electricity worse and I can hardly live with static electricity.
I would go with the ceramic heaters.

Any form of electric heating is expensive. Halogens no more or less than any other.
Don't go for portable gas heaters.

No cheaper or more expensive than any other type with the same power output.
Halogen heaters tend to reflect/radiate heat as well as convect it, and the orange glow helps to promote the sense of warmth.
Main thing is it gives you an illusion of heat but they don't save you money.
